Why we’re writing this blog:
While blogging has caught on in residential real estate circles, there still isn’t a whole lot of frontline chatter out there for the commercial real estate owner, investor or asset manager. In fact, in a recent search, one of the only online conversations we managed to find about commercial real estate blogging focused on the lack of it. So for better or for worse, the Building Equity Blog is open for business. Here, we’ll present our take on the local commercial real estate market with a focus on small- to mid-sized deals. Topics will include distressed and REO assets, best practices, case studies, property profiles and the occasional rant. We welcome your questions and comments, and look forward to some good conversation.

Blogger Profiles – About Peter & Dan:
We established Building Equity Real Estate in 2006 to deliver customized solutions, with a high level of service, to commercial real estate owners and investors. In 2008, we brokered $50 million in commercial real estate transactions including one the largest retail-portfolio deals of the year on Chicago’s North Side. Our call-it-like-we-see-it approach has earned Building Equity the respect – and business – of institutional investors, asset managers and private owners alike.
Peter is a native of Brooklyn and has lived in Chicago for the past 15 years. He entered the commercial real estate field 10 years ago after a successful career in sales and sales management. Dan, a native of Wilmette who attended New Trier High School and the University of Illinois at Chicago, has had a lifelong fascination with buildings. We met while working for a boutique commercial brokerage firm, where we learned the ins and outs of complex investment sales while also developing the personal approach that defines our business today.
